Ep01

At the rate I write these, it's going to take me forever to finally finish writing up the drama. I finished watching Nobuta wo Produce May 2006, but I love the drama so much that I feel compelled to continue.

this is great, another reason I should watch this show! If only american shows about high-schoolers had this much resonance, instead of being soap operas.

Oh you SO should watch this drama. It's very complex (among the most complex jdramas I've seen) and also very beautiful.

If only american shows about high-schoolers had this much resonance, instead of being soap operas.

I agree - few of them do, but part of it is that the medium is too different. Jdramas have a beginning, middle and end, so themes can be explored and returned to and developed in a way that is difficult for U.S. programming that is too open-ended and sprawling. The first season of Veronica Mars and early seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer are a couple good examples of U.S. television that are well-developed and explore important youth-related themes (as well as many other things as well) but few of them do such a good job.

Thank you for these posts. While I will never have the love for this drama a lot of people have (it is just very much not my thing), these posts are making me appreciate it nontheless.

You're so welcome! :) There's a lot of complexity to this drama, and I really want to finish metaing the drama by episode like this because I'm still in awe over how much the production stuffed into it. (I would love to read the novel, too - *gnashes teeth* over no English translation)

I plan to include this concept in a future jdrama post, but a big part of why this drama is so resonant has to do with Japanese culture, which as you know, is one of the most important reasons why I love jdramas. NwP brings up a lot of things that are really important in Japanese culture as well as things that are more obvious to a wider audience.

I adore Nobuta wo Produce ^^ It is exactly as you put it - about friendship, youth, growing up, and perseverance :) Thank you for the wonderful meta(s)!

You're very welcome! :) My love for the drama is endless, and I enjoy having the chance to re-watch and pick it apart. I'm sure there is a great deal that I've missed, so if you ever think of something that you'd like to add, definitely chime in! :)
