Friday night, I went to see Danish film Boss Of It All, a hilarious romp that was, as icajoleu described, a bit like Denmark Does 'The Office.' Directed by noted film maker Lars von Trier, it follows out-of-work actor Kristoffer who is hired by Ravn to "act" as the "Boss of it All" for Ravn's company. Ravn confesses early in the film that he always felt ( Read more... )

My dad really likes Guru. We own it on DVD and he was watching in on Sunday while I was packing so I watched chunks at a time. I do like the songs and Aish and Abhishek rock in terms of acting, so I'm eager to sit down and give it a proper watching. :)

I wrote about some of my issues with the film to dangermousie below, but I'd love to see what you think of the film overall once you've had a chance to watch it properly! Maybe you will love it, too, as many people seem to. As I said in my comments - I loved the romance and seeing how Guru pulls himself up from humble beginnings. That was all fantastic and very enteretaining! I just didn't like seeing what he became in the end - bloated, over-confident, and deeply corrupt.

I saw Guru a while back and really loved it. I did a long write-up on it here: http://dangermousie.livejournal.com/679287.html#cutid1 if you are interested, but a quick note about the corruption part: I think it didn't bother me at all because I grew up in a corrupt society where this sort of thing (bribes, manipulation) was the only way to get things done. So I had no problem with someone subverting an obsolete system. I belong to a Bollywood board and actually after the movie came out, there was an interesting dichotomy of response. A lot of people from India (or from places like where I am from) had no problem with that aspect of Guru (the movie or the character) but people who were from much better run places did not like it at all...

It's interesting that you should say that because one of the people I went to see this with was born and raised in India and she was almost offended that the festival had chosen this film - and she, like me, was disturbed that the film made a hero out of a man sunk into corruption ( ... )
