'Life on Mars' vid, 'Night Watch' film thoughts, more TK fangirling..

Last night I went to see Russian scifi/fantasy thriller Night Watch. If you recall I posted the Washington Post review here. I really enjoyed it, and I am very interested to see what the next film of the trilogy has in store. ( A few more quick thoughts under the cut )

kimura takuya, film, vids, tv, smap, night watch, life on mars

Do you have the clips that I mentioned to you? The Triangle/Bang Bang 2005 and this Lion Heart video? The first one is terrific, imo, because it's recent... I have no idea of when their songs came out when so I can't date the Lion Heart video, which is just pretty. I'd be happy to upload if you don't have. :D

Is Triangle the one set in the nursing home? That's an adorable video clip and so touching :)

I have bang bang and lionheart. My old Chinese teacher was totally obsessed with Takuya - she even had scrapbooks with his photos!!! :D

OK I'm uploading a SMAP bistro episode which is where the guys all 'cook' things and a guest star chooses which is the best dish. This one features a Japanese singer. I have the one where Takeshi Kaneshiro is a guest but that's in storage right now.

Do you have the video where Kimura is dancing dressed up as a pink rabbit? :D Anyway, keep an eye on my LJ. There will be stuff soon :)

Yes, Triangle is the one in the nursing home - what I have is a LIVE video clip of them performing both Triangle & Bang Bang from last year (I hope that works). I like it because it fairly energetic, even when they don't sound perfect.

No, I don't have the Kimura as pink rabbit...:) My eyes will be peeled for it.

:) It was a really interesting film with a fascinating vision. I loved "how" it was filmed - I thought the effects were really neat. I wanted to get to know more of the supporting characters more though. This was really Anton's story (which is fine). I wanted to know more about Olga! Why was she punished for 60 years as a stuffed owl?

While it isn't technically a SMAP video, I want any video version of this. As catdecember says, this is totally a happy pill. :D

Well it's a SMAP concert. That is from Live MIJ Smap tour in 2003. I have it in dvd but I haven't learned yet how to make videos from them so, I can't help you right now but I will try to figure out how. It's the same one, though! I don't think they had sung that song frequently. It's a pity because Takuya is just delicious as he sings ;)

Okay, I need to figure out how I can buy that DVD then. Because I think that would be PERFECT! I agree with you, of course. TK is lovely when he sings, especially with the smiles (I'm such a sucker for them...)

Maybe I should email you a list of what I have and you can let me know if there's anything I SHOULD have, that you think it particularly noteworthy...;) I don't want you to go to any needless trouble for me, though! Only if you feel like it, whenever you have time.

I probably won't get to see it 'til it hits DVD, but Night Watch sounds fabulous. Thanks for posting about it, so I can take your thoughts with me when I finally see it.

You're very welcome! I was in a hurry when I wrote this, so I'm not sure that I was very articulate. :) It was definitely a "first film" - I really wanted to know what happened next by the time the film was over.

Personally, I just adore seeing something done like this from a non-Hollywood or even Western European perspective - the whole flavor is different and wonderful. The "foreign-ness" suits the genre, I think, in presenting something that is alien to us - the Others, their struggle against one another, their culture.

I loved to use of subtitles in the film, epecially the echoing calls to the young boy. Delicious.

Hope you don't mind my adding you. Lovely icons and interesting visual style.

Night Watch was pretty neat, wasn't it? I would like to watch it again more carefully when it comes out on DVD - Russian-speaking alexandral tells me that unfortunately the English subtitles are pretty bad, and that a lot of the black humor was left out, which is a pity, but I still enjoyed it. I love the look of it almost as much as the rest, and my only complaint is that parts of it weren't more fleshed out, but I assume that is because this was really just a setup for the later films.

Hope you don't mind my adding you. Lovely icons and interesting visual style.

You are so sweet to say that! Yes, it's fine if you add me if you can tolerate the randomness of my entries! :) I'm assuming you came here for the 2046 icons? It's funny because I'm just beginning to learn how to use my graphics program, so my icons are simple partly out of necessity, but also because I prefer a more clean, minimal look. In any case, I'm glad you like them! :D Thank you very much.
