I came for the zombies and got a Mexican standoff.

I tried Dead Rising on the Xbox 360 the other day and was very disappointed...God, how can you make a game where you go around and kill zombies TEDIOUS? But it managed it in oh so many ways! From the supersmall text that I could barely read with No voice acting out of cutscenes that was apparently very important, an old black janitor constantly ( Read more... )

Oh yeah, I got it, and I completely agree with you, I've told him that too. Writing all the time is the key.

I heard about the whole small text issue for DR. The problem is that it was optimized for HD TVs and not SD TVs. Capcom never put out a patch, but rather gave "solutions":

1.) Adjust the settings on your TV or monitor
2.) Try using component cables instead of standard composite
3.) Setting the TV to widescreen ratio (even though you may not have a widescreen TV) may help in some cases

Luckily, I have an HD TV. :P I haven't played the game yet due to the lack of 360.

I have an HD TV, but haven't hooked up any of the specific HD cables for the 360 yet...Probably should get around to that sometime. Still, you'd think on a 36 inch TV or whatver it is we have...Maybe it's 42 inches, anyhow, it's pretty big and it's widescreen, you'd think that you could read the text or that they'd voice act it so it wouldn't interrupt the action and you didn't miss anything important. It was just a rental though, so I'm not going to run out and buy HD cables, though thanks for the tip.

You should own component cables whether or not you keep the game. You should get them for future games you will play. HDTV gaming without component cables is pretty bad. Most games look grainy and horrible. I learned this once I started to play my Wii. Trust me, you'll thank me later. :P

Yeah, I'll probably get them soon now that we're playing more games on the thing. Hadn't been an issue until now, really, so I suppose we entirely forgot about it.

I was really looking forward to Dead Rising if I ever got around to buying a 360. I'm still gonna have to try it for myself but you don't paint a pretty picture of it.

I really need to get back into writing myself. One of the authors at a con I went to this year made a good point that if all you write is a page a day, in one year you'll have 365 pages and that right there is a novel.

Well, on the plus side, it's only 29.99 now, so you won't drop a huge amount of money. The reviews are all so weird though, when I read through the user reviews they all say that it's frustrating as hell, but still give it a high score, so perhaps after some of the stupider parts it's fantastic. I didn't play that long, couldn't force myself too since it was only a rental that we were thinking of sending back the next day. I guess HD cables and a pretty good sized TV are a must to being able to enjoy this game without squinting and sitting 2 inches from the screen.

Basically, I've heard it best described as State of Emergency with zombies, and it is quite like that.
