GAAHHHHH!!!!!

Right, so I'm working on my thesis and it's laughing at me like you wouldn't believe. It totally hates me, to the point of receiving excess joy from watching my frustration. At this point, I'm trying to put things in a better order (as suggested by the Writing Assistant I've been meeting with) and fill in a few gaps here and there as I go. I was up ( Read more... )

As I have never written a thesis, I am the worst person to give advice...so naturally here I go. Is a thesis written in the format of a Novel? As in each chapter has a title and starts on a brand spankin' new page? If it's set up as novel I would suggest going against the grain and calling the first chapter 'introduction' and subsequent chapters their original titles. However if it is not like a novel and the chapters don't have titles and the they continue on the same page as the previous, then I would have the introduction (and conclusion) be it's own thing. I can't explain why I feel that way though ( ... )

Do not attempt to insert logic into the process of why grad school thesis writing happens or the format. THe thesis will only mock you, and the professors will only respond that this is the way things are done.

In "As I Lay Dying" by William Faulkner, one complete chapter is "My mother is a fish." So why shouldn't an introduction be a chapter unto itself?
