So... I thought I was done for the night....

A friend of mine did something which I consider brilliant. He free-wrote, calligraphic-ally, an incantation around his fireplace. A modified version of Roland of Gilead’s verse from Stephen King’s Dark Tower series:

Spark a-dark, who's my sire?
Will i lay me? Will I stay me?
Bless this home with fire.

I love this idea. I mean, I really love ( Read more... )

When I lived in Warren, I did that in my bedroom. First, I painted the walls pure white, then while the paint was still wet, I threw handsful of iridescent glitter on them. And when I lit candles, the walls shimmered. Then I bought red and black Sharpies, and two small tins of red and black paint and small pakhtbrushes.

The wall at the foot of the bed was all about flying...song lyrics, poems, bits of stories, some by me and some by other people. I painted wings and whatever else struck my fancy.

The entire inside of the door an elaborate design that I added to all the time.

One wall was reserved for lovers to decorate, while the others were whatever appealed at the moment.

That was the most magical room I'vd ever had. I miss that room...

That's a magnificent idea! What would be cool would be somehow designing how the words would look and making a template for whatever medium you were using. Sounds pretty high maintenance as I type it - and possible expensive - but it would make a fabulous turnout, and not to mention stylish! I think I will steal this idea myself for my new apartment.

I also love the decorating your sacred space thing. Even little scraps of paper with special words or phrases set on your altar...
