Aw, poor Jack. I love the drawn-out tension of this - Jack pissed off, the Doctor ready to flee, and then Jack simply . . . letting go. And calling the Doctor on his invasion of Jack's privacy. The other fic you posted for the same prompt was amazing and timely, of course, but I love this one as well (and any day with a new Flowers 'verse fic is a great day in my book).

Thank you! One thing I want to do with this 'Verse is show how Jack and the Doctor can actually be *good* for one another, and help each other out in more than just the obvious ways. In the end, it'll make a major difference in how they choose to handle some future choices.

AUs -- they're a great playgrounds!!

Future choices . . . would that be in the story with Rose?

She asked, hopefully. :-)

Yes, that story, definitely . . . and some of the re-worked canon snippets to follow after (CoE? I have no idea what you're talking about. *looks innocent*)

Beautiful. I love that the Doctor stays, and that Jack realizes how incredibly much that is costing him, and what it means. And I also love that he doesn't just let him get away with what he did, but nevertheless realizes that the good in their relationship is worth treasuring, and will mean more in the long run.

This is heartbreaking:
So many lost already, and Jack's life barely begun.
:(

Thank you! Yeah, I want to see this relationship help both the main characters grow and improve themselves (in ways I wish they would in canon . . . but I digress!). ;) That's what fic is for.

Yeah, that little quote about Jack losing people ended up being unfortunately predictive, didn't it? :/

I liked this a lot. The tension was nicely done, quiet, not racing adventure tension, more like I think I was holding my breath through lots of it. You do that to me, get me sucked in like that. It was a very nice pre-CoE response to the prompt.

Thank you! it was a very tense moment in my head, so I'm glad I got it to play out that way for the reader, too!

BTW, I've been pants at communicating with anyone lately, but I did want to say (while I was chattering away), I got your card, which was really cool (perfect quote!) and unexpected (I squeed happily in the PO, and I think that scared some people . . .). :D Glad you like the playlist. If you like, let me know sometime and I could send you more . . . ;)

Yes, he's one of my favorite artists. He's got lots of great quotes but I think that's my favorite. Even though any day now I'll think of myself as middle aged I still read that and think, "Right. My whole life is ahead of me. What do I want to do with it?" It's a good quote for writers I think, who never seem to have a failure of imagination.

Eh, I'm already *at* middle-aged, but clinging to immaturity as best I can anyway.

Definitely a quote to keep in mind! :D

Wow. I love how quiet this is, how it finally sets the two of them on equal footing.

Thanks! Yeah, this fic ended up being a real turning point for the characters, even though I didn't expect that when I first started typing. Cool! I love it when my own writing surprises me in a good way. :D

Lovely. Sweet and melancholy, and perfect for the Flowers!verse.

Thank you! "Sweet and melancholy" are the Words Of The Day for "Flowers," so it's good to know this reads that way . . . :)
