Traveling alone… again, the Doctor set the coordinates to random, the TARDIS could take them where she wished she would anyway, but this time he didn’t care he was so tired of travelling alone, being alone but it was what he deserved…The TARDIS landed with a thump, interrupting his mournful thoughts. The TARDIS couldn’t have gone far because they landed sooner than he had expected. He went to the already open door to see where they were and snorted bemused.
“Why are we on Rheinish?” He asked dryly. “I don’t need to meet the only scientist from this system.”
She nudged him until he went out into bright green sunlight, and then she slammed the door behind him. Piqued, he tried to open the door however, the door remained firmly shut. Understanding she wanted him here for reasons of her own, he tried to be excited, he wanted to be excited but he wasn’t.
Instead of rushing out eagerly into a new experience, he was idly standing in front of his marvelous time machine and wondering if any artists or photographers had ever captured successfully the iridescent light.
If the fledgling rebellion of scientists had managed to prove that quantum mechanics actually existed; and if Remi’kah’s scroll “On the Origin of Planets”, written in New Rheinish, been discovered in the caves.
It was obvious he wasn’t getting back inside his home until he found and fixed whatever it was she thought he needed to. In the distance he could see two villages. Sighing, he decided he might as well explore.

When he arrived at the first village he discovered it was a crumbling wreck with only a few inhabitants that ran away as soon as they saw the doctor and try as he might none of them let him get close enough to show them he was harmless or to answer his questions. This was certainly not the type of place the Doctor had expected the TARDIS to take him.
Giving up on the villagers for the present he didn’t see anything here that needed his attention; he left and traveled on to the next. This one was in perfect condition it was full of monuments, temples, statuary, well planted fields and gardens. But no people, not one person did he see living or dead until he wandered into a beautifully appointed apartment and found what the TARDIS had sent him here to find.
Jack Harkness, he was battered, every inch of his naked body was covered in cuts, dried blood and bruises and he was dead. This explained why he’d been unaware of the immortal man’s presence here.

Hastening to where Jack lay on the ornate dais he untied the restraints pulled up a fur covered chair and waited for him to awake. Soon, almost as if he was waiting for the time lord to arrive the human gasped painfully and tried to sit up. When he couldn’t he simply lay there not trying to escape, just lying there staring up at ceiling.
“Jack,” He said quietly, when the immortal made no further attempts to move. Getting up from the chair he bent over his friend eased him up until he was resting against him.
“Jack, please open your eyes and look at me.”
Jack slowly opened his eyes and looked up at him, but he didn’t speak. Shocked by the look in the blue eyes, the person he had known was gone. This man had retreated far into himself he bore no resemblance to the man he knew.
There was no twinkle in his eyes, no devil-may-care attitude about him, no do or dare this was a shell of the man the unquenchable fire was gone. However, Jack had come to be here some unknown event or being had managed to seemingly destroy his friend. Angered, the oncoming storm gathered his friend in his arms and carried him back cradled in his arms back to the TARDIS.
Whoever had done this would pay.
Because he wanted the con man, the flirt, the soldier, the brilliant man who was smart enough to assist him in repairing his prized ship. He wanted Jack Back!
