Hello everyone!

wintercompanion has a new feature - monthly rec posts! On the 15th of each month, a different reccer will post five to ten Doctor/Jack recs. I'm yamx, and I have the honor of being the first. (A big 'thank you' to the mods for that!) If you're interested in reccing yourself, see the bottom of this post for details.

There are many fantastic Doctor/Jack stories out there; it was hard to narrow it down, so I decided on the following set of rules for my recs:

• This is a Jack/Nine rec list. While I love Jack/Ten (and am beginning to love Jack/Eleven), Nine is my Doctor. Therefore, Jack/Nine is my personal favorite - and it's much harder to find than Jack/Ten (for obvious reasons, considering canon). In keeping with that theme, I'll rec nine fics! ;)
• Only one story recced per author - if you love a story I've recced, you should check out the rest of the author's work. There are quite a few authors on the list where I had a hard time picking just one story.
• I tried to include as many different genres as possible, and, where applicable, gave preference to what seemed to be the lesser-known/older stories.

This list is in no way comprehensive - and it's also in no particular order. I had a hard enough time narrowing down my choices without trying to rank them as well. :)

1. Choices, by lindenharp
   Set during Jack's early days on the TARDIS. Some Time Agents wanting to arrest Jack find themselves confronted with the Oncoming Storm protecting his own. Friendship, not slash, but one of the most beautiful depictions of the meaning of "found family" I've seen. One of my Blue Day fics.


2. Proxy, by xtricks
   This story is heartbreaking. Jack's longing is a living, painful thing. It's set in the TARDIS, after the Year That Never Was. Lonely and broken, Jack finds a room that brings back memories and shattered hopes. (Adult content.)


3. Times to Remember, by becky-writing
   This story is one of my guilty pleasures. I can't help myself, it makes me giggle madly every time I read it. Jack gets spanked by Nine - and not for any of the reasons he'd like.


4. Seeing Face To Face, by wendymr
   This fic shows both the Doctor and Jack from an unusual, vulnerable angle, while keeping them both perfectly in character. This fic is part of a series, making the backstory a bit complex, but in a nutshell: the Nine and Jack you see here are not those from the show, but their counterparts from Pete's world. In this 'verse, they met each other first shortly after the Time War (which was several hundred years ago for the Doctor, during his sixth life), when Jack was sixteen, and have been friends ever since. The Doctor occasionally drops in to see Jack, who's now a Time Agent. The two of them became lovers during the Doctor's eighth incarnation. This is the first time they meet after he regenerates into Nine. (Some sexual content, though nothing explicit.)


5. Cleaning Duty, by gracie_musica
   I love this drabble. In just one hundred words, it tells a story and shows us a lot about the relationship between the ninth Doctor and Jack - I'd go into more detail, but I don't want to give it away, so just read it and then look at my comment. *g* Another one of my Blue Day fics.


6. Lessons Learned, by unfeathered
   Jack screwed up, and the Doctor teaches him a lesson. Very hot, with a very dominant Doctor. The smut is employed to skillfully highlight facets of the characters. (Mild D/s, bondage, sexual content.)


7. Five Times Jack And The Doctor Missed Each Other (And One They Didn't), by rubychan05
   Very clever story, especially since it's canon-compliant - the Doctor and Jack (almost) run into each other several times before the Albion hospital, and form their own opinions. (Contains some explicit sex.)


8. Captain Jack's Seduction, by xanthelj
   This story is both hot and absolutely hilarious. Jack's trying to seduce the Doctor. He's really well prepared. He has a brilliant plan! It goes the way plans usually go around the Doctor… *g* (Some adult content.)


9. Telepathic Talks, by donutsweeper
   Jack is caught in a mineshaft and the Doctor has to fight to keep him alive. Even though they two of them never actually touch in this story, it's full of love and tenderness and deep affection. Also a Blue Day fic of mine. :)

Bonus Track:

1. This Too Is Love, by canaana
   I couldn't not include this fic. It's technically OT3, but Rose isn't actually in it until the very end, and the majority of the fic is entirely about the relationship between Jack and the Doctor. Once more, Canaana employs the lens of BDSM to look at the characters' emotions and their relationship. There's plenty of hot kink in here, but what really makes me love this story is the intimacy, the depth of the Doctor's care and love for Jack and Jack's absolute trust in the Doctor. Canaana does a superb job getting us into the characters' headspace and making us experience their emotions. (This fic involves pretty heavy BDSM and explicit sex, so take that under advisement before you click the link; but even if it's not normally your thing, this story might change your mind.)
