Mmn. Well, it really depends on whether they're using the same pattern as last year or not, don't you think? Thing is, last year they were tackling three of the most famous cases, and they needed to broadcast that - Sherlock was very well-liked, but they had to make sure that their viewers' interest was still on them. S2 was successful and they know they've secured our attention for S3, so they may very well have turned to making us guess and using subtler, less evident clues.

If they're going for the direct approach, though, I think you've summed it up pretty well. They might also combine some of these cases, I guess - they could use Mary in a plotline similar to that of the Noble Bachelor, for instance. (Poor, poor John.)

As for "bow", I'd like to hope that even if they do tackle LAST, it doesn't mean the end of the series (and it would make sense in a story arc where John might get married in the second episode, that Sherlock would flounce off to America afterwards, and only call John for backup upon his return). To be honest, ( ... )

Oh, it's completely dependent on if they're following last year's pattern. If they're doing something different, though, our odds of guessing anything at all is pretty slim. ;) So I'm choosing to speculate as if they are, because that gives me something to work with.

I very much hope they'll keep going as long as they think they can do something interesting with the show, and I doubt very sincerely that nine episodes will exhaust all of their ideas. So here's hoping they keep going, and that rumours of the show ending are greatly exaggerated.

I'd say the speculation is even more fun if they're going for metaphors or underhanded references, though! :D

Moffat and Gatiss have repeatedly said that they wanted to tackle some of the cases that weren't quite as well-known as the few they've already done, so hopefully they'll keep going for a bit? I'm gunning for Milverton, myself. And Garridebs. And the Devil's Foot.

Very nice speculations! You should bet money on these. I'll bet you're going to be right on at least one or two of them. ;)
