As grocery strike nears, each side has its own risks

Putting the lie to the idea that unions have their membership's best interest at heart. WHY would they schedule a strike RIGHT BEFORE the holidays, and in this economy? My store, which is part of one of the two chains being targeted, has already done a lot of provisional hiring - the store won't be that badly affected by a strike, but the union ( Read more... )

In Washington State if you want to work at a grocery store, be a teacher, work at Boeing, etc you HAVE to join the Union. They tell you in the interview and if you don't want to they won't hire you.

In Idaho it is a right to work state, so while you *can* join a union you don't have to. Having worked in both states in grocery stores, I haven't noticed any difference in the way you are treated or paid, except in Wa I had to fork over hundreds of dollars a year to feed the union and receive all their propaganda telling me who to vote for. :-/

Yeah - I'm from Ohio, also a union state. I never had to join a union, thank goodness.

There's a reason union states are starting to really hurt because manufacturing jobs are moving elsewhere.
