I get to go on a field trip on Friday! :D I am one of the chosen ones who gets to go Christmas non-denominational holiday tree* shopping for the Library. I'm so excited! Tree shopping is fun. As are field trips. w00t!

*Note to self: Work on "Christmas tree" research to reassure irritated patrons that they are actually a pagan tradition.

work: sbpl, holidays

It's all the Druids. They carved faces inro trees and then decorated them and offered them foods because they believed that trees and some rocks contained the spirts of heros. Key point! They didn't kill the tree and take it inside. The may have carved faces into them but they let the trees live!

Of course they didn't kill the trees! I must admit I do find that part of tree shopping a bit distressing. =/ One set of my step-grandparents, though, used to have a live tree that they kept in a pot. Perhaps I'll do that when I have my own home.

Thanks for the start! There's a book at the library called The Solstice Evergreen that I'll pick up tomorrow if I remember. Mmm, research projects, how I've missed them.... [/academic dork]
