i got my federal tax forms today. shocking! ("shocking!" is my new favorite phrase. i know, i'm weird.) oh crap, i just realized i might have to do 3 tax forms. ;__; wait... no. California is cool and they don't tax you unless you make $3000 or something, which i didn't. unlike Pennsylvania who tax you if you make over $30 and they make it ( Read more... )

I'd suggest going to Pemberley.com and report your findings and ask your pronunciation question there. I'm sure it'd either spur much discussion, or they'd be able to direct you to the correct threads.

gosh, i haven't been there in forever. i was obsessed with it freshman year ...

*lol*, they can't quite seem to agree, either. :) thanks for the suggestion, though. the most common pronunciation seems to be Northanger with the -anger part rhyming with hanger. which isn't how i was pronouncing it. oh well.

You would have to pay taxes in both states if CA's minimum was lower? That's interesting--I live in PA and work at college in NY, but I only need to pay PA state taxes because that's where I'm a resident. I just add my income in NY to my income that I claim to PA (which is ZERO...urk...I never have time to work during the summer).

ACK, I've wanted to read Northanger Abbey for years! I adore gothic romances more than any kind of book, and parodies thereof . . . I should get my good friend who's an English major specializing in the Victorian Era to watch the movie version with me and make fun of it *lol*

i think so. i've never actually made enough to be taxed in Cali yet since i've only worked here over the summers and usually for not much more than minimum wage. >.< i guess i'll find out this year, since i'll be working longer in Cali (after graduation *eep!!!*) and also still making enough for Pennsylvania's ridiculously low minimum.

Northanger Abbey is so much fun! you should definitely read it. and then make fun of the shockingly bad movie. when i read Northanger Abbey, i was inspired to read The Mysteries of Udolpho 'cause it's mentioned. but when i started reading it, i was bored to tears. so i just skimmed for the part mentioned in Northanger Abbey, and even that was boring. but Northanger Abbey is fun! regardless of how it's pronounced. :)

*lol* The Mysteries of Udolpho was the first real "gothic romance" and founded the genre . . . I really want to read that, too. Barbara Michaels/Elizabeth Peters (my favorite author, who writes WONDERFUL gothics) references it a lot in some of her more obviously gothic books.

Shocking is a very fun word and I use it a lot. I would have loved to be there fot the MST3King of the movie as I have some talent in that area. I really should read more. I have books,I have books I haven't read yet. I'm just not very motivated.
