The Guardian (UK) recently published lists of ten (or more, or less) rules for writing from several established authors. If you're interested, the rules are [over here]. I dislike "rules" for writing in general, but I do sometimes find them to be inspirational (when they are not the very strict DOs and DON'Ts that fail to take individuality into account)

Yes, exactly. Some are really useful. Others you just want to pat the person on the shoulder and say, "don't you realize that writing 100 words before you brush your teeth just happens to be what works for you?"

I read the first page of that article a week or two ago. I don't know who Anne Enright is but hers were my favorite.
