I've never understood why people thing Hell is bound to be more exciting than Heaven. I guess it's Dante's fault? But seriously, what kind of sense would it make if Hell is one long kegger and Heaven is one long church service? Hell, I imagine, would be the monotonous place.
I blame Dante and the like. Literarily, I think people feel more comfortable making more interesting twists on "Hell" than on Heaven. Not that I've actually read tons of books set in a well-defined afterlife, but that's the feeling I've gotten.
I always assumed it was something along the lines of 'doing fun things gets you into Hell and boring things gets you into Heaven, therefore that's what they'll be like'. But I'm not positive that that is actually valid logic.
Although what's the old expression? You go to Heaven for the scenery and Hell for the company?
Judging by me personally, Hell would be about an hour of being told to sit very still and do absolutely nothing in a beige box. So yeah, I'm with you on the monotony.
