As a person who tends to define her life according to her social interaction, I find it terribly important for people to stay grounded to the world and to other people. It is so easy for north americans to go days and weeks without speaking face to face with someone, or experiencing any human touch. We already have such dull senses, it astounds me that people will allow them to degenerate even further.

What the world needs is one giant canoe trip, where you spend a few days in nature. Some find it terrifying to be so overwhelmingly disconnected from the world; no phones, no internet, no news. Others are awed by how connected they feel; to themselves, to nature, to life. Where you use and are aware of all five of your senses.

...I can go on forever on this, but really the end all is that I wholly agree with your sentiments.

I do appreciate technology, but not to the point that I can't do without it for a while and certainly not to the point where I could ever do without human contact. I mean, it's absolutely amazing to me that I can have fantastic friends (like you) all over the world who I've never even met in person. So I believe in technology as a complement to certain aspects of life, but it should never be a substitute for true life.

Whenever I go on vacation I make it a point to avoid TV and the internet so that, as you say, I can be better tuned to all of MY senses. And I don't just do that for "official" vacations. Sometimes I'll just take a day or a few hours off from the rest of my life, and go find a quiet place, preferably outside, where I can refresh my senses. (I think I'm definitely in need of that this weekend.)

And I always take time to appreciate nature. Trees and the sky are things that can stop me in my tracks with their beauty, even in the midst of a big city.

Hear, hear! about keeping real human beings in the mix. And of course we need libraries! I would be lost without mine. Though I do love the online ILL catalog.

Agree about the pranks, by the way. I love the PB&J cuteness but it needs to be spiced up with some cooperative pranking, and soon. This is why we love them as a couple after all.

Why was it an hour again last night?

You can love the ILL catalog, I'll forgive you. :P Nah, I do believe that technology has good aspects and is a useful complement to certain human roles (in libraries, for instance). I just don't like the thought of technology taking over the world.

Yes, PB&J definitely need to do some collaborative pranking! The pranks they worked together on were some of the best in previous seasons. I LOVED the one where Jim put all Dwight's desk stuff in the vending machine and then Pam came over and bought the pencil cup. ♥

I was confused about the episode being an hour-long again, too. Happy, of course, but confused...
