So, this morning I was looking up the trailer for Stardust (looks pretty good; I'll prob'ly like it better if I don't reread the book first, which seems pretty likely since I'll be busy moving out/in and such in the coming weeks), and while I was poking around the Apple trailers site, I found one for a movie called Duck, which was evidently on very ( Read more... )

I really want to see Stardust and The Golden Compass! I borrowed Stardust from my friends first thing this summer, and I loved it. I intended to read The Golden Compass this summer (and its sequels), but it got left in VA :(

Well, there's still plenty of time to read The Golden Compass before the movie (but you definitely HAVE to read the book first!). You don't necessarily have to read the other two before the movie, although it might be safer to read at least the second one (The Subtle Knife) since I'm not sure how far the movie will be going and I've heard rumours that it'll be going a bit into the second book (which would really ruin the effect, I think, because The Golden Compass book has such an emotional and beautiful ending).

Maybe we could go see it together! If you could stand my super-geekyness about the books, what with His Dark Materials being the subject of my thesis and all. ;)

When would I ever complain about book-related super-geekyness? ;) We should definitely go see it together--it's so much more fun to see movies with friends than alone! I'll have read at least the first book by then, and you can teach me about things I didn't pick up on. yumiko did that for me with one of the Harry Potter movies (I refuse to read the series until it's all out, and since I buy paperbacks, that won't be until next year at the earliest), and it made the movie better, I think.
