It’s still a lousy year, and I'm still not writing, but the foodiness has been decent and the reading, for a chnage, has been good. I particularly liked The Woman Who Thought She Was A Planet and other stories by Vandana Singh ( Read more... )

Ah, I've been looking unsuccessfully for her books. Probably looking in all the wrong places.

Hmm... this one and her Younguncle books are all I've seen around. I'm sure Landmark will have both. Most of the stories in this one have alreday been published in journals or anthologies according to the index:o

I love short stories too:) No favourites as such, because most of the shorts I've read are by regular novel length writers but let's see... alexander maccall smith I thought does a good job with his shorts, so did Daphne du maurier. There's always Saki of course... haven't come across too many indian short thingies. Have you read Arvind Adiga's Between the assassinations? that's a set of snippets too, neatly written. Very long back I'd read this vague bunch of stories by some called subhadra sen. I can;t remember how all the stories were but this one piece about a girl who lights up a cvig at a durg apuja pandal for a dare was kind of whimsically sweet.

what about you... any recs?
