*hugs* Just keep saying "this too shall pass." over and over and over. I know I'm coming in at a different perspective because I'm not yet a momma, but when my little cousins (who might as well be my little brothers tbh because omg I've pretty much helped their moms raise them) went from adorable 8 year olds to surly 16 year olds, I wanted to cry because I am like: YOU ARE NOT YOURSELVES!!! YOU AREN'T THE CUTE LITTLE THINGS I USED TO HOLD! WHY?!! but now one of them is turning 20 I am beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel lol
( ... )
It is a phase and it will pass, but that doesn't mean that you don't continue to hold the line and keep your expectations in place. This is that really self centered, self involved bit where you have to keep reminding them that their choices impact other people.
Also, give yourself permission to love him, but not like him.
I remember when he was throwing Cheerios from his high chair. :-)
My best advice, what little it is worth: The hardest part of being a mother is knowing when to hold your tongue. Now that I'm a mother-in-law as well, that doubles for me. And when speaking up seems best, honesty is always good
And of course, this too shall pass. ;-)
My mother-in-law had a plaque in her house that said, "The Teen Years: Mother Nature's way of proving that the bond between parent and child can survive anything."
