People are stupid

Exactly! This is why we HAVE legislation, to protect people from other people who want to harm them! Good leaders should do what's best for the people, when the people can't see it themselves. :/

Thank you. This is my point exactly. But This Guy and the people who agree with him, i.e. his other FB friends have the same mindset. It's basically just: THIS IS A LAW SO IT IS RIGHT AND YOU SHOULD FOLLOW THE LAW.

It really makes me want to ask, "So if they made it a law that you had to kill a kitten every day, would you do it?"

I agree with your rant. That 'guy' on FB sounds like a mindless drone that just repeats and repeats what others have spoon fed him.

Is there a reason you keep him on as your friend? I would think that if he raises your blood pressure just by posting, you'd want to get rid of unnecessary aggravation.

I really only have him friended for FV and because he's a friend's fiancee. There's no other reason. I mostly balance out the fact that he's pretty sappy over my friend to smooth over the inherent douchebaggery.

Fucking judicial review - how does it work?! lavenderfrost July 29 2010, 00:51:55 UTC
Every time someone whines about "activist judges" overstepping their bounds by striking down laws, I just wanna smack them upside the head and scream "MARBURY VS. MADISON, MOTHERFUCKER. GOOGLE IT."

That, and I want to smack them upside the head with a printed copy of the Bill Of Rights, w/the 10th Amendment highlighted and underlined. Because the states' rights crowd always tend to forget about that pesky middle part that allows for the federal government to designate itself in charge of things not necessarily mentioned in the Constitution.

And I'm not even a law student. ^^;;

HOW DO I SHOOT WEB?! windandwater July 29 2010, 01:45:51 UTC
*pets you*

It aggravates me too, because This Guy seems to be willfully blind. But I don't want to go into a long rant about Constitutional law on his FB Wall. :x Plus, he doesn't seem to see how racism comes into the picture with this law. It's like............ really? REALLY?! You don't think some form of discrimination MIGHT POSSIBLY be connected to this?

And then he said "you can't prove intent of a law" and my brain exploded and I had to go look at my FV crops to calm down.

That's another reason I generally avoid FaceBook. (Aside from it just. Y'know. Sucking.) Ever since everyone's Moms/Dads/Aunties/Grandparents/Dogs started using it, it's like NeoCon Central over there. XP

I joined it to keep track of my relatives. Many of whom are refreshingly progressive.

Also, to play games.

Good for you for standing up to him! <3

I never commented on any of his posts -- the ones where he would link to articles directly on Faux News or other such fare -- I just sort of, scrolled past.

I do the same thing with a guy from high school who's on my Facebook feed. Every time I do I think of a funny my dad used to throw down when he knew he was losing an argument: "Don't confuse me with the facts! My mind is made up!" Just the other day I finally lost it and called bullshit on something the guy said about liberalism being all about handouts, and he told me he liked my "zest". -_-;;

I love that soap.

It dries my skin. XP

Plus, I keep thinking that maybe this month is the month I'll buy a full bottle or 2 of BPAL, and I don't want scented soap to clash with it, so I use unscented Dove. ^^;;

Slightly off topic here, I know we don't talk all that often, but I want you to know that I hugely respect you and admire for studying so comprehensively into international law, because you actually know legal case details on stuff I tend to have to try to argue on internal logical consistency.

#^^# Thank you. A lot of it is knowing the basics of law and international laws (you know, don't commit genocide, etc.), and then logic plays a big part. I tend to argue logically, and only bring out specific points if necessary.

But I can go on and on about LaGrand v. Arizona, which turned into Germany v. United States, because it's a case that I find fascinating. And I wrote a paper on it. XD;;
