Christmas Blues

There's snow on the ground, and Elizabeth's not sure she likes it, her breath hanging clouded in the air.
They're back on Earth for Christmas. Apparently being chewed out by the IOA, again, warranted a real vacation, or so General O’Neill had said.
Sighing as she kicks up the snow piling in front of her, Elizabeth bites back the bitter longing she associates with missing holidays at home, especially Christmas. It’s odd being here missing Atlantis, so much of the time it was the other way around.
"What are you thinking?” John's teasing voice draws her back to the present and away from her melancholy thoughts.
She shakes her head not quite sure she wants to answer, at least not here in a mall parking lot outside DC.
"I miss Atlantis," he whispers in her ear as he wraps his arms around her. She smiles softly knowing the admission's just as much for her as it is for him.
"We'll be back there in a week," she sighs surprised at how her voice cracks with hidden emotion, "honestly, I'm missing the thought of spending Christmas there."
"Don’t tell me last year's intergalactic long distance phone call was enough to replace all those thoughts of Christmas Eve mass and home cooked food." He teases watching as she struggles to wipe falling tears from her face with her mitted hand.
"No," she admits honestly, softly, "don't get me wrong-"
He cuts her off when his lips find her neck, the kiss warming the frozen skin it finds there. His lips still lingering, his words send shivers down her spine, warm. "Let's get this shopping done and head back to your mom's before she decides to start dinner without us."
"Home cooked food.” Elizabeth muses, pulling away reluctantly as they head towards the store.
“Yeah,” John smiles, his hand on the small of her back as they trudge along, “and that’s just the beginning.”
