A year on oxygen

Around this time last year is when I was first put on home oxygen.  I had the swine flu, and then a followup pneumonia that knocked the last strength out of me.  It was the first time laying in hospital where I thought I might actually die from not being able to get enough oxygen.  I got a lot of attention at first as the nurses worked hard to ( Read more... )

Man, I feel the same way about smokers... for me my issues are seeded in my grandmother's death, and how selfish I feel it is. She didn't have to die, she died because she wanted to smoke... and if she'd thought to try and quit, it would be different right now. I hate hearing people say it's "harder than cocaine" not only because that's COMPLETELY UNTRUE but because it's an excuse.
I want to scream at them: have you ever been through withdrawal? Do you know what it's like? Do you know how much it hurts? It isn't a headache and irritability, it's wanting to die so you don't live another hour in it. I HAVE been through major withdrawal so bad I was hospitalized. Don't fucking tell me quitting your precious cigarettes almost killed you, because you know NOTHING about real pain and real hard work to quit something.

... yeah, so I get worked up about it.

"and I said something like yeah man, let's do this"

Nice.

Cigarette butts are litter!
What is with the double standard? Those same people would get mad if they saw someone throw a candy wrapper on the ground, but cigarette butts are ok? Are they going to magically biodegrade (all their chemical goodness no less) into the pavement?!

Peeves me.

I'm with you on the smokers - with everything we know about how damaging it is, and how expensive and filthy a habit it is, you'd think that fewer people would ever start, much less defend it as a lifestyle choice.

On a better note - We're sending you lots of love James, and we miss you back here!
