Wilson makes it through the line in the PPTH cafeteria wondering where House is and what chance the items on his tray stand of making it into his own stomach as opposed to the diagnostician's. Not until he's taken his final bite will he cease expecting House to swoop in and make off with half his sandwich.
But it isn't House who takes the chair opposite him. It's Lisa. He groans inwardly, sure that his lunch is about to be rudely interrupted with tales of House's latest antics. Even when he's not physically present to cause James indigestion, he still manages to do it.
She snatches a French fry off his tray, and then another. "Hi."
"Hi." He feels like he should lean over the table, maybe, and give her a kiss. It's not as if their relationship is a secret from the rest of PPTH. Instead, he brushes her hand with his. "What's he done now?"
"Hmm? House? As far as I know, he's hiding in Exam 2 with only his Gameboy for company."
"Then... why..." He trails off because it sounds ridiculously rude to ask his girlfriend why the hell she's come looking for him, even if it is a legitimate question.
"Do I need a reason?"
"Usually, yes. I mean, no, but usually you have a reason."
"Well, that was before, right?" She grins, that big, toothy smile that could be right out of a toothpaste commercial. "I was hungry." She moves on from his fries and snatches a half of his sandwich.
He stares at her lips as she takes a bite of his tuna melt. "You were hungry."
"Yup."
"Did you... forget your wallet?"
"Nope."
"You just came to grab something to eat. Off my tray. From my lunch."
"I thought, if you could afford to feed House all these years, you might not mind sharing with me." She polishes off her half of his sandwich faster than he could have if he'd tried and stands. "Well, I've got to go." Then she does lean across the table and she does kiss him. "Thanks for lunch."
