I think that the thing with funerals and not-somber isn't just an Appalachian thing; I think it's more a rural-type thing, because that's how it was at Pa's funeral, and Matt and I were the only ones there who could call ourselves Appalachian.
Break was so short this year! I don't think it's rural, as I've been to funerals in the deep South in rural communities that are very, very somber. Perhaps related to settlements of Irish and Scots-Irish immigrants?
Because I know that my family is very strongly Irish on both sides... perhaps this merits further research, though! Not that I'm Irish, because we know this, but about the funeral thing :)
It does bear remarkable resemblance to Irish/Scottish wakes. Of which I wrote a twenty page paper just mere weeks ago, so if you're interested in reading about it, I still have some decent journal articles about it. :)
It really is a great cover, a lovely picture of her. Thank you! And it is great so far, a nice little mystery. I keep having the hardest time putting it down.
I agree completely about school! I am literally mourning the loss of each hour, because it's that much closer to classes! Haha, I'm a freak.
That would be so neat if you manage to track down Rachael with de Havilland, seeing as how her sister was in Rebecca, it would be interesting to do a compare/contrast of their interpretations of DuMarier characters!
Thank you doll! You're not a freak at all, I feel the exact same way. Every night as I'm trying to fall asleep, I keep counting the days. It's so depressing. I thought about that neat coincidence too. I'm not sure how hard it'll be to find, but I'm too curious not to search it out. I imagine they both did amazing jobs, though, as I absolutely love Joan Fontaine in Rebecca (it's really one of my favorite performances by an actress, ever, she suited the role so well).

I'm glad to hear you had such a wonderful holiday. :) My Cousin Rachel sounds intriguing, I'll have to read it (I adore du Maurier's Rebecca).
