True Love's Kiss

Feb 05, 2013 23:39

Spencer had fallen into a deep and permanent sleep. He wouldn't age, wouldn't waste, wouldn't die. But he was doomed to sleep until he received true love's kiss. This was a real roadblock for Willy who needed the man to help him find Avalon. He could not stand idly by while Spencer slept away precious time in the realm of the fae ( Read more... )

Spencer woke with a gasp- as if waking from a bad dream- and he paniced as he found himself trapped in what seemed like a glass case. "Let me out!" he demanded, moving to bang on the glass and hissing as it burned him and forced him to recoil. ...It was then that he spotted Hex.

"Oh my god, what have you done to him?" he asked willy, wanting to touch him but nervous about touching the clear case again.

"What's going on?"

"Unless you have something that will wake a man from some kind of enchanted sleep, I'm not interested," Spencer insured her, frowning as he looked down at his soaked shoes.

"Ah, enchanted sleep. Yes, I know how to cure that," she said, holding out her hand. "Come closer. Come to me. I shall whisper it into your ear and you can save your handsome prince..."

Willy's grip tightened.

Spencer knew it was a trick, and he kept one hand on Willy as he stepped closer to her.

Willy pulled him back just as the Glaistig leaned forward over the railing.

"Back to your pool, temptress," he said sharply. "We have no time for your games."

"Oh, but my prince, my games are so fun. Come now, you can't keep the mortal all to yourself..." she bubbled. But Willy pulled Spencer away even more, crossing the bridge with the knowledge that she could not follow.

Spencer squeaked and let Willy tug him along.

"I hate magic," he muttered.

Willy heard and it made him chuckle. "Oh, my friend, that amuses me. I wonder what it must be like to live a life devoid of magic, so much so that the very presence of it pains you. Do you not enjoy the wonder of the world?"

"It's hard to enjoy the wonder when it's constantly harming you," Spencer said honestly.

"Magic doesn't harm me," Willy pointed out. The palace gates opened up and Willy lead the way through the crowd of fae gathered around, servants and court alike. Eyes turned toward them but the prince didn't notice. He only lead Spencer inside and down a long grand hallway to what appeared to be a separate portion of the palace entirely.

"Here we are," he said, then threw open the large door to reveal the most magnificent library imaginable.

Spencer had been twitchu and uneasy in the crown, but his nerves vanished as he looked towards the books and the massive library that held them.

It was lovely, and though the magic made him a little unsteady he made his way inside, touching spines and reading titles.

It really was beautiful.

"The section we need for Avalon is on the fourth level," Willy said, striding inside. He'd spent many days in here as a boy, reading about the mortal world. It was a place he was quite comfortable.

"And when we have answers, then I shall show you where we might learn how to help your friend."

He knew exactly which book to give Spencer for that knowledge. He knew just what it would say, too.

"No, I want that first," Spencer insisted. "I wont be able to focus until I know for sure I can help him. I'll still do what you ask- I'll still... I'll serve you as promised, but I need to know he's going to be okay, Willy. Please," he begged softly.

"If you cross me I shall put you in the palace dungeons," Willy threatened. "You will find me Avalon."

But he did change his track and took Spencer to the second level, right to a book about enchanted fruit and their spells. He pulled out the book and handed it to the man.

"What you ate was the somnium fruit," he said. "In here you will find the way to break the spell. All I could do was transfer the enchantment from one mortal to another. I could not break the spell. Only one person can."

Spencer did the fae the small favour of actually looking worried by his threat, taking the book and quickly finding the relevant text. He read it at a rapid speed, brow creasing deeply as worry set in.

"True love's kiss?" he asked. "How am I supposed to know who his true love is? Is it who he loves or who loves him? The book doesn't say."

"True love is who he loves and who loves him in return. Love that is pure. Love that is honest," he shrugged. He had a problem with love. It made little sense to him. Willy had read about it, sung songs about it, but he'd never felt it. There would be no true love's kiss for him if he ever happened to be so foolish as to eat of the fruit.

"I don't have answers for you, Spencer. You'll have to figure it out. COme now. Fourth level."

Spencer was already walking the other way though, threat forgotten and his focus on nothing but Hex. He needed to go to him. He needed to save him somehow.

He didn't care about Avalon or Willy. The only thing that mattered was Hex- and short of Willy chaining him to a table there was little that could keep him from going to him.
