Can the ends justify the means?

I'm looking for folks to weigh in on the above question with hobbies, interests, and work for those of you lucky enough to have a job doing what you love.  With your hobbies/interests, do you pursue it because you enjoy doing it, because of an end result, or what combination of both?

It seems so far that enjoying the means is some part to many of the activities that people wrote about. It's not just the means and it possibly changes over the duration of time particularly if the end is something desirable as well.

Mistoffo is in a unique place in life where many of his activities center around a common theme and tie into a type of personal philosophy.

Mreauow has been developing her ability as an interpreter which at one point she was planning to either use in her job or possibly use as a full time job, which looks like it would be a good move since she enjoys it as the mean by which the communication happens.

I didn't really consider that some projects have possibly smaller points that are kind of like endings. Such as finishing a particular chapter or draft of a project. Creating, acclimating, or really getting into the main plot with a gaming character. I can imagine there could be parts that are not enjoyable, but since they are a small part of a bigger thing it's not a big deal.
