Just when you think the eyelash yarn trend can't get any scarier, this comes along.  I suppose it was bound to happen, as there are lots of eyelash trimmed baby/kid patterns out there already, and the novelty yarns tend not to be machine washable (hmmm, yeah, I really want to spend $10 a ball for something that is neither a natural fiber nor ( Read more... )

I confess. I used some of this stuff, or something like it, on a collection of chemo caps I made for a friend earlier this year. One was variegated flame-colored cotton (yellow and bright orange and red) -- the cap came out looking like your head was on fire. The other was a silkier microfiber light blue and green and chartreuse, and looked like some weird undersea thing. They were both very soft, looked good, and I didn't worry too much about the washability since they're just hats.

So, to everything there is a season. But baby yarn, actually used for baby projects? Yeah right.

Well, chemo caps are a special category for which all regular rules are suspended -- as are, perhaps, condom cozies. I do actually think there is a place for eyelash yarn (and this is a relatively new softening of standards for me). I just don't think baby projects are it. Also, that phrase "soft as your baby's eyelashes" is creepy. Who writes the Herrschner's catalog copy, Michael Jackson?
