G'mar chatimah tovah

When Rabbi Liz asked me to talk about forgiveness on Yom Kippur, I thought “Whoa, this is spooky,” because I’ve always been very bad at forgiveness.  I’m bad at forgiving other people, and I’m especially bad at forgiving myself.  In fact, I’m so bad at forgiveness that a couple days before Rabbi Liz got in touch with me, I had registered ( Read more... )

I hope you will forgive a goyishe woman for posting (I have Jewish relatives who will be in my heart forever, so I feel free sometimes when perhaps I shouldn't). This was beautiful. I love the last paragraph. Confession is good for the soul, but dwelling on it for more than one day is unhealthy. One day to reflect, confess, forgive and fast and pray is wonderful - what a gift!
The day before, I spoke with a colleague who was going into the fast the next day and asked him if it was OK to ask him to pray for me. He said it was fine. I was grateful for his prayers.
here's an idea - we all really pray for one another, no matter what faith we profess. We get the forces in the universe to work together for good. How can that be a bad thing? We couldn't demonize those who don't agree. Can you imagine what would happen if fundie Xians decided to really do this? Phew, it's overwhelming just thinking about it.
Thanks so much for sharing this - and I hope you don't mind me posting on your blog. If you do, I will refrain in future.
thanks

Of course I don't mind your posting! It's always nice to "see" you. Whenever I see you at work I wish we had time to hang out and talk about knitting or whatever. We should have lunch sometime.

If fundie Xians acted more like Jesus, the world would be a much better place.

Just one question about this "forgiveness" you speak of... larryleveen December 1 2008, 02:31:14 UTC
... If we forgive someone for something, do we still get to kvetch about it at least?

Maybe that's like having your Apfelkuchen and eating it too.

It's about not letting the kvetching run your life.

Yeah, non-attachment. I think the Buddhists are on to something.
