Orson Scott Card is a hateful homophobe

How annoying.  And here I was thinking Ender's Game was required reading.  I'm glad I didn't give in to my impulse to buy it the last time I saw it in a bookstore.

I might still get it from the library, except now I don't want to like it because he's such a dickhead.

Anyone read it?

queers, books

I'll probably read at least Ender's Game eventually, if I can get it from the library without putting a hold on it (holds can result in more books being purchased). Or I'll get my personal librarian to bring me a copy that's been withdrawn. That's how I read the first Left Behind book. I had to know what the fuss was about, but didn't want to create demand for it even to the extent of checking it out from the library, so she brought me a copy that was being discarded. After I read it I threw it away so it couldn't corrupt the innocent.

The sucker is rarely sitting on the shelf, as it's VERY popular. I'll see what I can do for you when I get back to the branch on Monday. :-)

Card is a complete arse, but Ender's Game is one of the books that I identify as turning me on to science fiction and specfic in general. (And the whole Enderverse, come to that.) Nothing feminist about it, but still a good read I reckon.

His Mormon-flavoured stuff is just weird.

Maps in a Mirror is worth a read, if you don't mind a bit of horror with your SF.
