This is great! Your style does so much to convey time and place - I admit it's a period of history I don't have a real firm grasp on, so I'm sure I missed a lot - but it was still so funny too, and rather eerie and tense for all that. Wonderful job!

Don't worry--Scottish Calvinists during the 1700s aren't exactly most people's cup of tea, and James Hogg's style is very difficult to read. His prose is incredibly dense and confusing and I'll confess I only got through it because I needed to for school.

Long story short--a demon possesses the bastard child of a lord (or of the lord's wife and a Calvinist priest, it's never made very certain). Said demon follows the young man around and is sort of like a cross between an alternate personality and an imaginary friend. And gets him into all sorts of trouble. The young man is convinced his "friend" is a foreign prince or something, and at one point they're running away from some dark creatures that follow them wherever they go. Finally the young man's journal entries stop and you see a newspaper article on how his body was found, and it looked like he hung himself. But the question is, who buried the body, if he committed suicide and nobody knew where he'd gone? And I thought: it's totally Crowley and he botched the possession....
