It was the day of the wedding.

Holy poo it was the day of her wedding.

To say that Willow was a little flaily was a tiny bit of an understatement.

But she still needed to get ready, so this was her doing that.

"You do know there's no wedding school, right?" Xander said when he knocked. "I just made that up so you could have something fake to be nervous about."

"How did you do this?" Willow asked him. "I feel like I'm about to pass out."

"I got distracted by a monster-attack?" Xander said. "I could run out and try to scare a couple up if you want."

"See, that I could handle," Willow said. "If it wasn't for the part where everybody would probably think it was my fault that they came."

"Why would they think that?" He did know about Narnia's witch thing, from way back, but, well. Way back.

"Because I'm a witch and I'm new and I'm in no way good enough for a king let alone their High King?" Willow offered, rattling the possibilities off of the top of her head. "Plus maybe they won't like my dress. I mean they made the dress but maybe they secretly hated my ideas and decided not to say."

"Okay, you're a witch, gotta give you that one," Xander answered. "But you're not new to me. And as somebody who knows you better than the talking cheetahs, I say their king's the second luckiest guy in this closet right now."

Willow found herself blinking rapidly, and giving Xander a watery smile. "Thanks."

"If they don't love you already--" And he had his doubts about that just from the way the squirrels used to scurry around her in Fandom. Or, y'know. Here. "They will. Unless they're really, really dumb. But then at least you get to say 'I'm Queen of the Really Really Dumb People' which sounded more impressive in my head."

Even so it made her giggle. "I married into dumb people?"

Xander grinned. "It works for my mom!"

"At least I can say I married into nice people," Willow replied. "They all really do feel like family. Granted Ed does fill the role of family members with whom awkward conversations are had, but still!"

"Ed's the one who kind of looks like he's concealing an extra sword and it's poking him someplace not fun, but he's too polite to mention it?" Xander asked.

"Peter's brother, right," Willow confirmed.

[needsaparrot]

"What's his story? Why the awkward, I mean?" He was treading a dangerous path between distracting her from her nerves and feeding them, he knew, but it felt like the right way to go.

"He kinda got tricked by the witch who made a bad name for all of us before I got here," Willow said. "It's been a pain that lingers for him."
