Nobody can tell what you're upset about if you make a post like that.

[Yes, he's annoying, lecturing folks he doesn't know...but unbeknownst to him, he's also basically skin and bones and therefore not exactly good eating.

...Unless small asian nerdboys happen to be prime rib to dragons...

Then again, Gau also doesn't KNOW he's talking to a dragon, or of the readiness for points of possible edibility in this conversation to come.

Then again, even he might seem to realize he can be annoying, because he relents a little.]

What's wrong, mister...ah?

[A straining anger--MASTER?!]

Raikou-san's not my-!
I don't have a-!

[He tries and tries. It's jsut so easy to get a rise out of him. he's not a person with a lot of subtlety. At times like these he goes red in the face and tries to come up with something scathing.

He's usually not very good at it.

As he's building up explosive rage, his brain catches up with s afew choice words. Words like "trustworthy", and those ones about the caliber of his ability...

Anger fights a moment with pride.

Assistance with the creatures in the forest...

Some people are still in there...

DING.]

Welllll... [A swell, but this time of pride and purpose rather than anger, a laugh of false modesty...]

Cooking and cleaning is just what I do.

[Mmhmm, mmhmmm~]

I'm out of the forest, but going back in with help...you really think you could make a difference? Those wolf-bird things were hard to kill. And I am pretty worried about the people there...

If you think you're strong enough! [angryboy perks up very obviously]What would you need me to do? If I ( ... )

[Kilgarrah has a bit of trouble following all the leaps in logic and topic Gau goes through, but he can't help rumble a small laugh when the boy asks what he needs]

A good meal would be nice. But yes, if you need me, I'm not concerned about these ... wolf-birds. Creatures of magick are kindred spirits.

[and even if they aren't, he still has his claws and fire, so he isn't exactly a damsel in distress]

What do you care for those among the trees?

[Gau frowns, and fiddles with his wakachi identification bangle around his wrist, unseen.]

It's...my job, really. [Hesitation]
Punishing traitors...and protecting the innocent and helpless in the world from those who'd misuse their power against the chief's ideals...

I probably don't know anybody in that forest. [He swallows] Even if I really wish some of the people I knew were there so-

[he cuts himself off with a grimace]

If I could...help people on my own, I would be back there now, doing everything I can, but...
Yoite-kun needs me here, even if all he does is try to avoid me and run away. And finding out if there's a faster way to get home...

[Gau sighs. Oh young, teenage idealism... He tries to sound firm, now.]
I'm...good at baking in particular. And I can clean just about anything you need done. And I can find information. If anything I can do would be of use, then...I'd give it. If anything I could offer would be enough to keep someone innocent from being harmed, how could I hold it back?!

[RAWR. Big words for a little ( ... )

[you know, it's almost cruel leading the boy on, but Kilgarrah isn't the nicest dragon. not after two decades of being chained in a cave after his entire species was wiped out by his captor. so all of Gau's idealism is taken with a grain of salt, though it isn't apparent in the dragon's voice]

How noble. Such virtues are rare among men, I find.

I've only just settled in this place and will have to take stock of my needs before I'm able to give you exact orders, but I'm certain your service will come in handy. As for those in the forest, if you can show me who you need rescued, I'll help you.

[Gau doesn't even have two decades of life to his name, total. He's used to much mocking of his idealism. Particularly when people see how physically weak, and insignificant he looks for all his loudness and desire to change the world for the better.

But he also believes even the mighty sometimes need strength from somewhere other than themselves, and he believes that's something he can offer unreservedly.

If it saves people, being even enslaved for the rest of his life isn't something he'd mind at all. In fact, he'd work as hard as he could. Those who do him a service deserve to be repaid for what they do ( ... )

I have no need of guns, boy, but you're welcome to come along if you prefer. It might give you something to do other than babble.

[a request for his name. names have power and Kilgarrah isn't exactly keen on giving someone he's just met his name. historically, only Dragonlords ever learn the true names of dragons and Kilgarrah sees no reason to change this. so he might as well sew a little mischief into this place in its stead]

Meguro Gau. I'm certain you'll prove helpful, so I will seek you out. I am called Merlin. [tips his voice lower, conspiratorial] I would ask you not reveal my identity to any, however. I have reason to believe I have enemies among the populace who followed me here.

[Ordinarily, Gau would bristle immediately in the defense of his "babble", but he's too busy being drawn in hook-line-and-sinker to the idea of confidence on the matter of somethign secret like the dragon's name, and possible defense of him from his enemies.

He still has no idea he's talking to a dragon. None at all. He sure will someday, though. And sadly enough, he'll probably just think it's cool because dragons at least are strong and powerful and everything he's not.]

...if I'd just get in the way, it's fine. And I can do something here.

[Sounds a bit reluctant. He'd really much rather be in the woods having his arse kicked rescuing people even as only backup, than left behind folding the clothes and making sure everything's in order, but...no guns, and eldritch things... He realizes with some tiny scrap of perception that he has no idea what this fellow can actually do, or HWO he would save someone.

But he sounds strong.]I won't tell anyone about your name, either! if there's anything I can do to help against those enemies ( ... )

Of course you can help. [he can be weapons fodder cough] What can you do to help exactly? I doubt cooking will do much against the beasts outside.
