Yes, yes, and yes. As soon as I saw that red sportscar speeding through the crop circle (and how awesome was that whole thing???), I said that has got to be River! And then it wasn't. Except for it was. \o/ And Alex just blew me away.

Alex Kingston is a goddess. I have known this since seeing her as Moll Flanders. (If you have not, you must, and soon.)

I'm mildly disappointed that if they were going to cycle through the recent companions, they didn't include Jack Harkness, if only for the eye candy.

I loved the scene in which Amy finally realized that Rory's been trailing after her all those years not just like a puppy, but like a lovelorn puppy. It's not just so Amy & Rory, but it was timey-wimey: Mels ensures her own existence by giving her future parents a hearty push.

I haven't seen her MF, but I've been meaning to. Honest!

Timey-wimeyness abounds, in a rather taffy-pulling manner. :-D

a) I was actually kind of irritated by that, as I thought there was a lot more they could have done with it. Ah well.

b) Same. :)

c) My opinions on the storytelling are mostly negative, but super-positive about Alex Kingston. Love her, not liking the story, nor its telling all that much. /sad Whovian

I thought there was a lot more they could have done with it.

They could have, but I... didn't really want them to? It's just the most minefieldy can of worms there is. Which is why it worked for me as just the right level of outrageous a request for Mels to make. Not insane enough to tip her hand, just enough to make her seem a bit reckless and naive about time travel.

For me, personally, it really worked that there was all this discussion about "OH MY GOD THEY'RE DOING AN EPISODE WITH HITLER," and played it up with Rory punching him in the promos and everything, and at the end of the day they got the gag and moved on.

Sorry you're sad. :-/ My quibbles are pretty minor at this point.

my admiration for Alex Kingston is completely and utterly unalloyed. The reverse engineering of her own characterization into the wildly youthful and unbalanced, yet still (seemingly) supremely confident, not-yet-River makes my jaw drop. And then watching the jump-started conscience take hold, making her still not yet the River we know, but that little leap closer. Just. Guh.

Just...YES YES YES YES. Exactly THIS.

I love her like ALL kinds of PIE.

Also, totally YES on the "shove Hitler in the cupboard, get on with character stuff we care about."
