First off, gleeeee! that with 20 participants, we ended up with way more than 20 stories. First there was the enthusiastic person who wrote one for each of his recipient's three prompts instead of choosing one. Then there were the "party favor" drabbles as a surprise from co-mods brightknightie and amilyn to all the participants who posted their contributions on time ( Read more... )

Thank you so much for all your time and effort in the fkficfest game, not only writing and beta-reading, but also reading stories swiftly and sharing feedback every day. I appreciate it! And I believe everyone else does, too.

Thank you also for these great recommendations in general, and the one for the story I wrote in particular. I am honored by the compliment!

However -- "If anyone's ever built a better historical for FK, I haven't read it." -- it's possible that you wrote it, you know. :-) Your Janette pre-AFWTD-canon backstory, "Silent All These Years," is a marvel and delight.

thank you. I'm still pretty darn proud of that one, but I'd be rather more thorough with my research these days. Of course, it would also almost certainly take me more than a few weeks to write!

Whether the end result would be substantially different... There's some conflating of Celtic names/pantheon that properly belongs on the other side of the Channel (or in Brittany at best) that I'd probably think twice before trying to get away with these days. But overall, I suspect I'd spend a lot more hours happily reading to put the same amount of information into the story itself.

Of course, there's a lot to be said for that too! To do something that involved with the Internet at my fingertips, in addition to the books I've bought since then, instead of having to leave the house for anything beyond my parents' 1972 edition of Encyclopedia Brittanica!

It's all just an entirely different process now. Different brain, different world. :-)
