Summary: She seems to be the only one that remembers these days. (Set sometime pre Nate/Blair breakup)
Disclaimer: I don't own 'Gossip Girl'.

When Blair decides to throw another one of her fabulous parties on his birthday he knows she doesn't remember. Neither does Chuck or Serena nor any of his so called friends. His parents are too busy cleaning up his father's mess to notice much of anything these days.

Midnight hits and he wanders away from the thumping beat of the music into Blair's kitchen. The catering staff has already departed so he's alone. Blair's out there enjoying herself for one and too preoccupied to keep track of him.

The door swings open and in walks Jenny Humphrey, the newest of 'Queen' Blair’s minions. Her smiles are so innocent and real it's hard to believe she's come this far without becoming so tainted.

"Hi" She offers shyly before awkwardly shuffling past him to her purse on the floor in a corner. The door opens again and this time Dan and Serena come hurtling through oblivious to Nate and his moment of silence.

"Jen, Serena and I are going to head back you coming?" He's not meant for these parties and if it wasn't for the fact that he was dating Serena van der Woodsen he wouldn't even be on anyone's radar.

"Yea," she replies rolling her eyes at the couple in front of her, "Here take my purse I'm just going to go say goodbye to Blair and them." Dan and Serena leave and once again the room is engulfed in silence. He watches as she timidly steps toward the granite counter top.

"Hey Nate?" His eyes glance up from his hands as he stairs at her.

He doesn't answer so much in words as he does in the way he looks at her. Those innocent round eyes, rosy cheeks and hair blonder that Serena's. It's the first time he's ever really looked at her. She's always been there in the background but there was enough drama in his life it kept him occupied.

"Happy Birthday" she smiles and quickly slides the little pouch of blue saran wrapped cookies. Some silly colored ribbon adorns the top and a folded note attached. Before he can manage a smile and a 'thank you' he hears the door swing open and is left with only a fleeting glance of the curious little blonde.

He carefully unfolds the note and starts to read, in the neatest handwriting:

Happy Birthday Nate!
I hope you like butterscotch

Love, Jenny

And from that moment Nate decides butterscotch cookies are his favorite.
