I lucked into finding them at our local Sprouts -- but I had first found you can order them at Amazon (of course); it's the Oregon brand canned, but they got good reviews at Amazon, and for canned cherries, they're quite good.
No chance of getting FRESH Montmorencies down this way, naturally. But we got the idea from The Splendid Table on NPR.

cool. I found a recipe for sour orange chicken in a St Augustine FL cookbook. Luckily ELD had a tree that had gone back to the sour root stock and man was that chicken good
I don't know I've ever see the SOUR ones in Kroger's, but it could be that easy. They make GREAT sauces -- a lot of the recipes I found called for ham and pork (which we're going to try with the remaining sauce), but I found several for chicken.
A few weeks ago Barb had crisp duck at a local restaurant that had a sour cherry glaze on it -- it was really good.
