This happened, and considering it's Florida, I have no wonder that the defense attorney is going for the "self-defense" plea. After all, it's been proven in Florida that it is perfectly all right to bring a gun to a fist fight, and murder in these cases is A-okay ( Read more... )

I used to be a gun owner (liked to go target shooting once in a while), but I had some stolen, one ruined due to stupidity (mine), and sold the rest... I don't miss them. But I learned how to use them safely and properly when I was young from my father, who taught pistol in the Army and made damned sure I knew that a gun was invented and exists for one reason: to kill. "Never point it unless you mean to use it." He wouldn't even let us have toy guns, because "a gun is not a toy." We sure as HELL wouldn't have touched Dad's pistol without his permission. (And he sure as hell didn't carry it around to movie theatres.)

This country is going a little more crazy every freakin' day....

At least this time the NYT managed to focus on guns, not cellphone etiquette. That said, I bet the fucker gets away with it, and the very thought makes me want to puke.

Yeah, texting in the theatre is annoying, but really... call the manager or an usher, don't take it into your own hands. Any time.
