So, today I went out to start taking down the Christmas lights from the front fence. As I wound up the strings of little red lights, I noticed the string that went across the TOP of the fence, the old-fashioned set with the large light bulbs, was missing EVERY SINGLE BULB. Someone had come along and STOLEN every single one of the large light ( Read more... )

How mean of them! I bet those old-style bulbs are hard to find, or more expesive than the little ones, so someone decided to save him/herself a few bucks.

We can find them, but usually only in single-color packs of four bulbs, usually at old-fashioned places like Ace Hardware. And the last time we bought them, you couldn't find white ones so we had to get clear. We did have a bunch of boxes of replacement bulbs so filled a lot of the empty sockets before putting the strings away, but STILL...!

The only thing I could figure was kids wanting horrible things to throw at other people (because nothing pops like light bulbs)...

I know. I only pictured kids wanting something to throw at other people (because light bulbs pop/explode when they hit things)...

Although you DO see them -- we buy them in packs of four at Ace Hardware; and Barb found a site where we can order them (and strings of 100) by the gross...

That is just really, really bizarre! Were they up high? Is it at all possible it could have been a squirrel or a bird or something? I mean, it doesn't sound likely, but neither does someone coming along and stealing all the bulbs!

Not high at all, it's a four-foot chain link. If we had squirrels, maybe; but I don't think birds could get off with them clean! :)
