I didn't get nearly as much done yesterday as I'd hoped to, wine or no; I have to knuckle down this afternoon once we're finished with our usual weekend gadding about.
I love your anecdotes about the Phoenix area and Tempe in particular. I spent almost six weeks total there over 2007/2008 as my now-ex-girlfriend was finishing up her Masters at ASU. She lived right on the border of Tempe and Mesa, where another 3 blocks east and you went from students and families to ghetto. Good times.
That ex-girlfriend and I then moved to Houston so she could go to Rice for her PhD. I saw my first owl in the wild there... ironic, since Rice's mascot is the owl, and he was just a baby! So adorable. Great Horned Owls are rather creepy in that they seem to be always sizing you up as to your edibility.
Yeah, there's some neighborhoods throughout the Phoenix valley were you go from gated communities, golf courses and million-dollar mansions to the projects. Not a planned city, Phoenix. *g*
I knew there were Great Horned Owls in the area (my sister-in-law lived over the freeway in Ahwatukee), but I never expected to see one, since I'm rarely in the area at night!
