(my internet connection is super slow right now - if it keeps up, you might want to host the image elsewhere, just fyi :-) )

That looks pretty good. Is 80GB enough space for you?

I don't know anything about the graphics card, but 128MB is reasonable. *shrug* and 2GB of RAM is sweet :-)

Yes, I think so. I don't download movies or anything, and I pay for any music I download (I always said if they made it cheaper I'd pay--still not quite cheap enough for me to download individual songs en masse, but if I find an album I particularly like I'll buy it on iTunes). Plus it has a DVD burner, so if there's anything huge I really want around, I can burn it. If I get a bigger HD it'll go into my desktop anyway.

The graphics card is the only one HP offered in the customization process and has 128MB dedicated memory. I imagine it will be okay. Certainly hope so!

And yes... the RAM makes me happy in my pants.

That was one of the main sticking points when I was making all the customization choices. I want to be able to just pick it up and take it to someone's place to play WoW. That and be able to play outside on my balcony. Because some days it's just too pretty not to :)

This is where some of us would cry, "Noooooo!" and try to get you to go Mac instead, but that decision of course is up to you!

I'll have you know that I did look at Macs. But the thing is, they're more expensive for less performance, smaller screen (not small, but smaller), and several other things. Plus I've never used one before so it would be an adjustment. But that's not the main thing. The main thing that turns me off: they dumped my company as a CPU supplier to take up Intel, who's a big bully. That's a huge double-strike against them. AMD is local and I know several people who work there, plus they're David against Intel's Goliath. Yup yup.

So I have my reasons. I do appreciate the input, though! *huggles*

I'd say skip XP Home and try to get XP64 Pro, mostly because that will take full advantage of your x64 processor. I've had very few problems with the OS, though I don't know if ATI has their x64 drivers out.

The reason I suggest this is because, if you change your mind and want x64 later, you won't be able to get it. But if you get x64 now, and it doesn't work, you can always grab XP from a software store.

Good point, but I'll have to call them and find out if they offer it. I'm buying this pre-built but customized from HP; I'm not ready to deviate from the mainstream on a laptop. They certainly ought to know if XP64 Pro would work, in any case.
