The world didn't feel right anymore. Rather, it seemed as though it were dangling at the end of a piece of string, barely hanging onto the thread; yet, still, it was there. All there, just not as right as it once used to be. It used to be firmer. The world in itself actually had a steadier grip on itself prior to now. But everything had changed, hadn't it? Lucifer, the Apocalypse - the end of the world. Soon enough, with the devil on the loose, that string was going to snap. Why? Because Sam had been the one to put it on such a hinge. He had taken a stable, healthy (or healthier than it was now) planet and turned it into this. Funnily enough, it didn't look much like the world was ending. In fact, it looked just like any other normal day. Sam thought that was rather cruel, as he would have preferred to see hellfire raining down on the world then watch people wander around with no idea as to what really was happening. People were clueless. Usually, Sam didn't mind. It was actually sort of expected. But now, with the world on the verge ( ... )

"Keep looking," Dean was a little too quick to bark back at his brother, when surprise surprise, he wasn't finding anything about El Presidente of Hell himself, Lucifer, in Dad's writings. He made the mistake of casting a glance Sam's way, only to instantly regret it ( ... )

Castiel should not have been opening his eyes. He should not have been able to feel the wind shifting the hair of his vessel back. He shouldn't be aware of his fingernails pressing into his palm or the breath shifting in and out of Jimmy's lungs. He should not have remembered his own name, much less that of his charge. He should never again have been concerned with his mission, Heaven, Hell, anything.

Castiel looked up, gazing at the sky. There really was only one explanation as to why he could. His Father. His Father had brought him back. His Father understood where Castiel's first loyalty lay. His Father had not condemned him. Castiel did not show his delight in any outward way.

He listened to the angels' whispering. He did not know if Sam and Dean were successful however his presence on Earth was an indication he was still needed here. It was another hour before he knew. They were talking, about Dean. About Sam. Castiel listened in silence, shielding his presence as best he could.

Sam shook his head, almost immediately. "No, he's not like a typical demon. He's Lucifer - we can't just assume..." Sam frowned, rubbing at the side of his face tiredly. "He's a fallen angel, Dean. I don't think rock salt and holy water are gonna cut it this time." They had never faced anything like this before, nor had Sam ever imagined that they ever would. This went far above the standards of a typical hunt. Witches? Fine. Demons? Sure. Angels? Strange, but all right. Lucifer? The devil himself? Sam wouldn't deny believing that he had existed prior to all the talk of apocalypses and seals; he was the one who had spent most of his life praying to heaven and all that came with it. Sam had just never believed that anything on as large of a scale as this could ever come to pass. Not within their lifetime. Yet now that the final seal had broken and Lucifer had clawed his way out of his cage, they had no choice but to stick with their jobs. Hunters. More than that, this was their responsibility. No - correction. Sam swallowed hard, ( ... )

All the years Dean had spent hunting, had definitely left him with pretty decent nerves of steel. There just wasn't that much left that could get a rise out of him. Excluding spirit induced paranoia over yorkies and ninja kittens, anyway. Suddenly seeing an angel he lost saw in the form of freaking jelly splattered all over Chuck's apartment, and even in the poor guy's hair, was apparently another exception ( ... )

"I apologise Dean." Castiel's voice was calm, if a little tight. "I wished to see you, you were driving." He was unmarked, completely intact down to the same wrinkled coat. He looked at Dean with his head tilted a little ( ... )

Sam didn't comment when Dean gave Castiel a solid dose of holy water to the face. It was a smart move. After being stabbed in the back by Ruby, Sam wasn't exactly looking to underestimate any of the usual suspects. Was the angel sitting in their backseat really an angel? Would they end up having to deal with some other monster of the week that had been screwing around with them in secret now that the shit had royally hit the fan? Sam cautiously turned in his seat, relieved to find that, at least, the holy water hadn't backfired. There wasn't a single speck of smoke to be seen. A heavy breath escaped him as Sam rubbed at the side of his jaw, almost as though he were trying to calm himself down. He was on edge. Then again, he had every right to be after all that he had done.

"You're supposed to be dead," Sam repeated, shooting Castiel a look of surprise. The three of them - they couldn't stay dead, could they? Sam wanted to press Cas on the details based on how he was currently not a splatter of blood and gore, but he chose to bite ( ... )

Dean's brows knitted together while he waited for Castiel to reveal something they didn't already know. He didn't know what to think about the part where the guy had actually enjoyed his little holy water shower, but between that and his unique use of tact, they had pretty solid proof they had an angel on board. "Uh, you're welcome, anytime ( ... )
