A good day

Today has been a great improvement over the past few days. For one thing, I am finally employed again (yay!! I start next week), which is a huge relief and has made being here much less psychologically and financially stressful. For another, I did not spend most of the day today cleaning, organizing, or buying things for the apartment. And

there's a woman in my program this year from memphis and every time i see and talk to her i wonder if she - with the accent and the makeup and the perky - is like the people you are living among.

Heh, yeah, Nashville isn't really a vegan paradise. Although there are several good restaurants that are very veggie-friendly, and a new vegetarian restaurant opening up soon in East Nashville that promises vegan food too. So there are a few places you could eat! But yeah, you'd want to stay far away from the meat-and-threes.

There are definitely women here who wear lots more makeup than I'm used to seeing. But we also live (and I now work) in a young, lefty, hipsterish, studenty neighborhood where that's much less common than elsewhere in the city, I think. I do love the southern accent! I may start to develop one of my own before long. And so far I have found that the stereotype of southerners being really nice and friendly is proving true -- a little startling for this Yankee girl, but I actually like it a lot.
