Genealogy is so addicting! I've been doing some basic flailing around on ancestry.com on a free trial and digging up lots of good stuff. I think I overcame a huge block on my dad's side of the family, though I need to confirm it (my dad told me his grandfather's name was X but I think that was actually his great-grandfather, which would explain why

I'm glad you commented, I was thinking of emailing you to pick your brain with some questions! Is the Mormon stuff helpful even if there is pretty much zero chance that anyone in your family ever converted to Mormonism? I come from some serious Irish Catholic / Canadian Catholic stock. Also, have you ever found the "worldwide" ancestry.com subscription worth paying for? I am pretty much at the point where I need Canadian and Irish records to go any further, but I'm not sure it's worth paying for.
