Here I Am!

In San Antonio. The flight was fine. I decided to take a taxi from the airport to the hostel, rather than subject myself and fellow passengers to me and my two suitcases and my huge camping backpack on an unfamiliar bus system. I've never taken a taxi before. I have to admit, I was a little freaked when the door locks went down; this is what comes ( Read more... )

Glad you made it OK. Sorry about the heat/hostel situation. OOH!! How did you like The Bone Collector? I have all of Jeffery Deaver's books if you want to read them next time you're in town.

Um, I liked it enough that I'm scared of taxis. I think that says something. I was like 12 at the time, that might have had something to do with it.

Ah. I thought you'd read it on the plane. Deaver has that effect on people. He's great though. Bestest of luck with the search today.

It's a great accomplishment, one I hope to keep up for many years to come. I hope I find one too, thank you.

HOORAY YOU ARE ALIVE! I totally understand about taxis and The Bone Collector, but I have to admit that I have yet to be murdered. Sucks about the hostel (we were actually going to stay there before we arranged things with Floyd's parents), although I have to admit that I have kind of a thing for attics, and narrow staircases and servant's quarters sound rather intriguing from a distance. I hear that you're moving in with a grad student? Anyway, things are kind of chaotic here, what with the family moving, me rushing around doing last-minute Marshall Islands things, and trying t oscrape together grad school stuff before I leave for the unknown. But keep me posted on the apartment and job situation (although I've become a bit negligent about getting on the computer, because ours is a little slow and we also have a policy of turning it off, which makes getting on take a little more effort). When you get an address, tell me, and hopefully I'll be able to send you the doubles from the disposable camera from our Roadtrip of Awesome ( ... )

I think that in different circumstances, it could have been nice. I mean, dragging two suitcases to the third floor was no fun, but I did that at all the other hostels. I think it was mainly the lack of ventilation that got to me. Hauling suitcases is one thing, hauling suitcases when you're being suffocated by heat and dust in quite another. Also, the manager/owner person could not have been less interested. I am used to people in hostels being fairly nice and friendly, even if it is in a rather customer service-y sort of way. In this case, I think the guy would have needed special surgery to act more bored. I've settled in fairly well, got a place to stay and everything, and will start job hunting today or tomorrow. So, things are going fairly well, yeah.
