It's typical. It's the thirty-first of December, or maybe it's the first of January, it's freezing cold, it's really, really dark, and Sam is lying in wait for a creature that'll hopefully be thick enough to fall into their trap. There are a thousand, thousand things wrong with this plan, and Sam's not really looking forward to finding out which part of it is going to fall apart first. Because it's almost guaranteed it will fall apart; that's their luck all over

Sam was not normally so backward. Okay, he wasn't a complete slut like Dean, but he wasn't exactly a blushing virgin, either. Well. He did sometimes blush a bit, when a girl was particularly forward or something, but mostly he was okay. Well. Sometimes, if he really really liked a girl --
"Earth to Sam Winchester?"
She was smiling, which was a good sign. She didn't think he was a total freak. Yet. There was always time for him to apply his foot to his mouth in some epic way, of course.
"Um," he said, intelligently.
"I asked," she said, and damn but she was beautiful, smiling at him like that, eyes wicked with fun and yet not sharp, not judging, "if you were ever going to kiss me."
"Um," he said again, and then cleared his throat. "I, um -- "
"If the answer's yes, go ahead and do it," she said. "And by the way? I don't think you're a freak, and won't think you're a freak, I think you're really cute and I think you really, really need to kiss me right now

In a way, it's easy. Bran doesn't know why but it's always felt like something that was meant to happen -- the two of them, together, lives colliding and tangling. His first memories of Will have gone blurry with time, but he does remember the feeling. Like coming home, like meeting an old friend who knows you by heart, like meeting a new person who turns out to be your soulmate, like...
In a way, it's hard. Because they're so close, so right, Bran's so afraid to lose it. His throat is tight, his heart constricted, thumping away erratically in his chest.
He's pretty sure it's going to happen anyway, dithering aside. For a start, they're barely inches apart now, so close that he can feel Will's breath soft and warm on his face, so he can almost feel the heat of Will's body.
For another thing, Will is reaching up, hesitating for a moment longer and then finally, finally touching him, sliding his fingers into his hair and pulling him closer, closer

Zidane wakes to the sound of her voice. She's singing again, soft and clear, and for a few minutes, he just listens. When he opens his eyes, he finds her watching him. He'd expected her to be looking out of the window, but he supposes he is more fun to look at.
He sits up, grinning at her. "A brand new year," he says, stretching.
"You slept through the festivities."
"Well, if you'd come to bed on time, we might've done something more than sleep," he says, grinning. She almost doesn't blush, now, but he still catches the hint of pink in her cheeks.
"Zidane!"
He hops out of bed. "Dagger!"
She frowns at him a little. It's actually cute, the little wrinkle of her brow. He goes over to her and kisses her, even dips her down, and she splutters into a laugh halfway through. "Zidane," she says again, almost reproachfully.
"Let's spend this whole year together, okay?" he says, mostly serious, and her eyes sparkle.
"You think I'm ever letting you get away from me again?"
Bran's smile is warm, amused, and thankgod, he doesn't seem to be freaking out. In fact, no one seems all that surprised, except maybe Barney himself. His siblings seem to be finding it pretty amusing, judging from the look on Jane's face -- she seems to be swallowing giggles -- and Simon's open laughter.
"Yes," Bran says, patting him on the shoulder a little. "Yep, you did."
"Did you mind?" It comes out in a bit of a squeak and Barney reddens even more, if that were possible. He wishes everybody would stop looking at them.
"No," Bran said, rolling his eyes.
"I won't do it again, I promise," Barney says, and the tips of his ears are burning.
Bran's voice is low, and god that accent gets sexier every time Barney hears it, and for a minute he has to make sure he isn't dreaming when he actually absorbs what Bran just said
