Disclaimer: As per usual, the good things in life are not mine to have, but belong to someone else... in this case Hasbro, Takara and IDW and anyone else I’ve forgotten…
Authors Notes: For the tf_rare_pairing prompt - Smokescreen/Prowl: I knew you were trouble.  Follows in same series as Luck of the Draw.  I love how long I can leave it between writing fics and still remember that I have a universe in which a particular prompt would work well… I have too many ‘verses
Feedback makes friends.  Flames dealt with by the masters of paranoia and fire, Red Alert and Inferno.

“Fancy meeting you here…” Smokescreen grinned.  Prowl frowned.  The other enforcer present shook his head.
“I’ll never know what the two of you see in each other.”
“There are times when I wonder the same.” Prowl replied dryly.
“Prowl, you wound me.” Smokescreen pressed his hands over his bumper, covering his spark as though physically wounded.
“Please…” Prowl shook his head.  “Let him out.  I’ll take custody of him.”
“Aw Prowl, don’tcha know you already have custody of me?” Prowl’s doorwings flared, a clear indication of how annoyed he was.  Smokescreen made a quiet mental ‘eep’ and shut up.

The enforcer opened the door to the cell Smokescreen was in, stepping back to allow Smokescreen out.  He moved to stand next to Prowl, keeping his doorwings still and vocaliser quiet.  Once the enforcer left Prowl alone with Smokescreen, he spoke.
“I’m sorry.” He knew that Prowl didn’t like overt public displays of affection.  And he knew that the enforcer was angry at him.
“What did you do this time?” Prowl ignored his apology.
“Nothing.  I mean it.” He added when Prowl glanced at him, doorwings hiked in disbelief.  “I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, and got caught up in things.”
“Things…”
“Yeah… look, I know you don’t like me talking about what I do, so I’m not gonna.  But believe me when I say that this time it wasn’t my fault.” Smokescreen stopped and reached out for Prowl’s arm.
“I believe you.” Prowl looked him straight in the optics and Smokescreen felt his doorwings sag in relief.  “But believe me when I say that you have to stop this.”
“Stop it…?” Smokescreen hated how wheedling his voice became.
“I knew you were trouble.” Prowl shook his head.  “From the moment I met you.” Smokescreen looked up and caught a ghost of a smile on Prowl’s face.
“Hey, it’s not like that was my fault either.”
“No.  Though, I still fail to see why you won’t tell me who ordered that beating.”
“Prowl, look, I’m fine.  I got beat up, yeah, but that was a long time ago.  Don’t worry about it so much.  Not like I’ve been in that situation since, right?” He hadn’t.  Because after he’d caved and called Prowl and admitted his attraction (having already figured the mech appreciated bluntness), he convinced Prowl to teach him some defensive moves, because he didn’t want to end up like that again.
“I know…”
“No buts.” Smokescreen placed his forefinger on Prowl’s lip, stopping him from saying anything further.  “I’m here, I’m safe.  And I may be trouble, but I’m your trouble.” That brought a genuine smile to Prowl’s face.
“I suppose you could say that.”
“I just did.”
