Ottawa is an Iroquois word of "Fethin' Cold Wasteland."

Yup, I know... I pop up here randomly from time to time and promise to visit more. Well, I shan't make promises I can't keep but I will stroll through here as and when I can. More often in the future, of like, just 'cause. Facebook has lost its luster for me and other sites are... mostly meh ( Read more... )

:) As always, nice to see ya on LJ.
Sounds like you're moving towards makign Ottawa your home again, even if it is Winnipeg's evil sibling when it comes to cold. :P
I still gotta get more funding for that work field trial, and then maybe I'll get to come visit you again. If I do, I'd be willing to pay for weekend gas money to go have fun in Toronto, rather than take a lonely train ride. ;)

Well, I'm here so I must make the best of it. It's gonna take a lot of work but...
And I'm all ready being courted for LARPs *grin*
I plan to visit Toronto, Montreal and other cities... frequently.

It's good to hear from you again! And yeah, it's bloody cold out there. And here. And just about everywhere else in this country, but, hey, FEBRUARY IN CANADA. It's kind of expected. :)

Life is strange. You can be certain of something, yet have circumstances outside of your control step in and tear it down before your eyes. And, other things, that you are certain that you would rock, but aren't certain to get (for REASONS), somehow get to you in a roundabout kind of way. And sometimes, life, well...nonne piscem inter clunem est.

Welcome back! I've been inactive in teh scene for a while, but I think your assessment is more or less accurate from what I can see. :P
One good thing though, at least there seems to be more diversity, even if not a lot of cross-pollination.

Time for me to do some cross polinating then *grin*nod*
And strangely... I'm finding that it could do with MORE diversity *nod* But that may just be my take on things.

I'll take your word about the Ottawa jobs; us bureaucrats are girding our loins and preparing for at least one more rough year. The pagans are my scene these days. The poly overlap with them to a certain extent. There are pagan brunch meet-ups in both the east and west ends of the city (east ends on the first and third Sundays, west ends on second and fourth). And of course the huge festival in August, Kaleidoscope Gathering. The pagans are a lot more active on fb than lj, so that's where I'm getting all the community updates.

The jobs I'm looking at are customer service, truck driving, realty... stuff like that. Though I've seen that while some parts of the government are shedding, others are hiring.

I've been to one of the East end pagan meet ups a while ago... didn't recognize anyone there so I had a nice breakfast, read some, and left. I'll have to keep an eye out for more. Are there any public circles or temples? Or is it all brunches?

And I may have to get myself a tent and make Kaleidoscope as I am on this side of the province now. Heard much about it.

The big Asatru group is the Runen Tyr Kindred. But from what I've seen and heard, there's a lot of drama around them. I would imagine the wiccans also have one or several groups, but I haven't really looked into it. There's also the Pagan Schola, which is a learning resource. Google is giving me decent hits, if you want to avoid assbook.

Also, there are at least two places in town that rent tents, MEC and Trailhead. Trailhead has very good rates for long weekends, and the tent will be a hell of a lot better than what you'd buy at Crappy Tire. Plus, they sell off all their rental equipment at the end of the season, so if you really like their gear, you can pick some up at a discounted price.

Thank you for the tip on Trailhead. I don't know that I'd use a tent often and I may want to upgrade to a teardrop trailer within a year or so... so renting is a smart thing *nod* The info is greatly appreciated.

Ah, Ottawa... land o' drama *laugh*sigh* I'm not Asatru myself so I tend to avoid those sorts. I'll do some poking about to see what I can find outside of the brunches.
