This is the best. I love Ennis's inner thought about his hidden ability to love. Love how he's so shy when he thought about that feeling that makes him feel butterfly flattering in the pot of his stomach. Your words are powerful, and beautiful at the same time. I adore your writing!

Do Americans use the word shag? I've never heard it used anywhere but in Austin Powers movies. I think it's a Brit word.

So I'll make this quick :)
Two points I love so much in this chapter:
1. Ennis finally "consciously" realises the hurt he has inflicted on people around him. Alma, Cassie.. and especially Jack. That he has a glimpse the kind of state that he has driven Jack into in all those fishing trip years.
2. Jack being so understanding (after the initial anger/hurt/shock) over the Pox incident. And being so-Jack at the end to comfort and offer solution to both of them.
Ennis's progression has its price and it's been a painful and heartbreaking journey but you made it so believable and moving... just loved it.
