Things I think that I think

1. I has a sad. Terra Nova has been canceled. First Eureka, then In Plain Sight, then The Firm, and now Terra Nova.

2. At least we have a couple of new shows on that aren't cookie cutters. Did anyone catch Touch (with Jack Bauer Keifer Southerland) or Awake (with Lucius Malfoy Jason Isaacs). I found them both quite intriguing. I swore for a minute I ( Read more... )

I highly recommend the Millennium Trilogy by Steig Larrson. These three books are definitely for mature readers. They are violent, and include sexual crimes, but are extremely well written. I read the English translations and found the proper names a bit confusing at first, but all three are definitely worth reading.

I didn't realize the Dragon Tattoo books had a different title until I looked your suggestion up. I've read them. While I can appreciate his plotting and unique characters, I didn't really care for them. It could be the translation but I found it slow and the technical writing simplistic. I thought books 2 and 3 were better written than the first one.

The last season of In Plain Sight is about to start as well. I just hate knowing it's the last.

I haven't heard of the Bree Tanner book or Midnight Sun until you mentioned them. After a quick Google search, I see they are still in the Twlight 'verse. It took me a minute to figure out who Bree was. :)

I'm looking forward to seeing the Emerald Isle for myself.

"I'm headed to Ireland in July"

Before I had the brain surgeries I had great plans to visit
Ireland and Scotland...................
My father's family originally came from Scotland and his mother's side from Ireland and Wales.
I wanted to see the Emerald Isles and Scotland so very much. . . and spend some
real time including finding family still there as I had in Switzerland when I visited mom's
family and saw where her mother and father had come from (from Berne Canton)
Dad's family are of the Gordon clan........and I even know their tartan which is lovely.
IZ so envious of your trip...............
Please take a lot of pix and share with your flist.
:-)

I was very sad to read about Terra Nova. Not surprised considering how long it too, but sad. I love Jason O'Mara like whoa ( ... )

Touch and Awake have only had the pilot episodes aired so you haven't missed too much. I'm sure you can find them on the network websites if you want to catch up.

I never considered myself as into dystopian society. I just like a well-written story. I'll take a look at the books you recommended.

Go Rangers! I've got my ten-game pack plus a couple other tickets. My brother and I always so Opening Day (he's in charge of finding tickets which is almost impossible these days). The big story here yesterday was Yu Darvish's debut at spring training. I do believe this year is going to be wild.

I'm a fan of basketball when my team is playing. My Mavs winning the NBA finals last year was quite exciting, and I'm loving all the success my Baylor Bears are having all around the sports world. I'm even paying attention to the NFL draft for the first time EVER.

Book recs...um. For mysteries, I'd suggest Josephine Tey and Dorothy Sayers. For SF, Andre Norton's Free Traders series is fun, and a refreshing break from all the space opera/military SF that's out there, as is James White's Sector General series (hospital SF! That's something you don't see a whole lot of). And my standing fantasy recommendations (for all ages) are Terry Pratchett (starting with the Night Watch/industrial revolution novels, which are nearly all fantasy mysteries) and Diana Wynne Jones, starting nearly anywhere.

Take lots of pictures of Ireland and be sure to share them when you come back! I'd love to go there someday.

Love your icon! That's totally me. I've read some Diana Wynne Jones and Dorothy Sayers. I have "The Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett on my Kindle. I'll move it up on my list (I have over 450 books on there). Hospital SF sounds interesting. I'll look for those. Thanks!

Lots of pictures will be taken!
