It's not just your brain. I'm pretty sure this is the *second* sock story in the fandom.

Now, the sequel! Where Rodney finds out that John is, in fact, a very conventional sock in appearance, but has a wild & geeky heart.

The sequel: John and Rodney get rescued and dried and live happily ever after as a mismatched pair of sock-puppets. *gg*

I imagine John is made from dark brown wool and tends to sport fuzz around the tip, but totally yes on the wild and geeky heart!

This was cute, and yes it is the second "they're socks" story -- You Only Ever Lose One by thighholster -- this fandom's done everything I think! :)
